Ohagwu Assumes Office as Ondo’s 47th Police Commissioner, Promises Professionalism


The Ondo State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Felix Ohagwu as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state, with a firm pledge to strengthen security operations and uphold professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.
Ohagwu officially took over from his predecessor, CP Adebowale Lawal, following his posting by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of strategic redeployments aimed at enhancing internal security and effective policing across the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the new police commissioner described his appointment as an opportunity to consolidate on the existing security architecture in Ondo State.
He assured residents that under his leadership, the Command would remain committed to protecting lives and property through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“The Command under my watch will remain resolute in combating crime and criminality through robust intelligence gathering, strategic partnerships, community engagement and sustained synergy with other security agencies,” Ohagwu said.
The new commissioner, a seasoned officer with more than three decades of policing experience, is reputed for his expertise in crime prevention, operational coordination, public safety management and intelligence-driven policing.
He further pledged that transparency, accountability and professionalism would define the activities of the Command, stressing that officers and men under his leadership would operate within the bounds of ethical conduct and global best policing standards.
Ohagwu said, “The Ondo State Police Command will continue to be guided by the principles of integrity, respect for human rights, quality service delivery and a corruption-free policing system in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.”
The commissioner also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him, promising to justify the trust through effective service delivery.
He commended his predecessor, Lawal, for what he described as his remarkable contributions to maintaining peace, security and stability in the state.
The Police Command called on residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and improving public safety.
